FIRKIN CRANE / TYRONE GUTHRIE CENTRE & McCARTHY INSURANCE GROUP RESIDENTIAL DANCE BURSARY 2016
Firkin Crane, the home of dance in Cork, and the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, a workplace for artists of all disciplines, came together to provide an opportunity for an Ireland-based or Irish dance artist to develop new work. The bursary offered a two-week residency at both Firkin Crane and the Tyrone Guthrie Centre – a four-week residency in total.
The first week’s residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre will take place from the 18th to 25th January 2016 inclusive. The timing of the second week of the Tyrone Guthrie Centre residency, and two-week Firkin Crane residency, will be agreed between the selected artist and the Firkin Crane/Tyrone Guthrie Centre, but will take place between February and April 2016.
At the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, the artist will receive full board, accommodation and access to a studio.
At Firkin Crane, the artist will receive accommodation access to a studio, in addition to an allocation of €300 towards subsistence.
The bursary provision was for one dance artist. It is intended to support the development of new work.
In return the dance artist is expected to present a work-in-progress showing in the Firkin Crane at the end of the process.
Applicants submitted a single A4 page proposal outlining the work they would like to develop with this bursary. They included a CV and a link to at least one piece of choreography they have made. Applications were assessed by the Firkin Crane Dance Curator Ríonach Ní Néill and an independent dance artist, Ella Clarke.
Closing date for applications was 5pm, November 27th 2015
The bursary was open to professional dance artists who are based in Ireland or who are Irish.
