Programmed by Junk Ensemble, Cork City Dance Artists in Residence at Firkin Crane.
In this workshop Mary shares elements from her interdisciplinary practice bridging dance, film and visual arts. Exploring the relationship between dance and screen in cinema, stage and gallery settings, participants will be invited to consider their own artistic questions through a series of guided individual and group explorations. These will focus on visual languages for screen or stage, improvised and choreographed performance for the screen, and creative and technical tensions in crossing disciplines. The workshop is an opportunity to experiment with existing ideas you have or open up new questions, as well as sharing, viewing, playing back and reflecting on content. It is suitable for anyone working in dance or moving image with an interest in the crossovers between art forms. Participants are encouraged to wear comfy clothes and bring a camera/smart phone or pre-existing footage they may wish to experiment with.
