Programmed by Junk Ensemble, Cork City Dance Artist in Residence at Firkin Crane
Emma’s workshop will introduce you to her creative practice. Through improvisation, we will work with physical and energetic states supported by carefully selected music to unleash new realms for the body’s imagination. We will generate fresh and surprising movement that is deeply connected to emotion, sensation and the desire to offer something to the world through the body, with intention and recklessness.
Emma started creating shows in 2010, following a sabbatical as a ballet dancer during which she obtained a degree in Drama and Theatre Studies and Russian from Trinity College, Dublin. In 2015 she formed United Fall, under which she collaborates with artists from dance, music, theatre, photography and design on an artistic path that is not limited to dance, but one which moves freely between all of these forms in order to serve the art. Previous productions include Orfeo ed Euridice (2018), Girl Song (2017), Dancehall (2015), Tundra (2014), Dogs (2012), Listowel Syndrome (2010). Her work has been commissioned by Dublin Dance Festival, Irish Arts Center and has been co-produced by Dublin Theatre Festival, Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival and Centre de Développement Chorégraphique, Toulouse. She was an associate artist with Dance Ireland and Artist in Residence at Visual 2012-2018. Most recent theatre collaborations include Arlington (2016) with Enda Walsh and Danse, Morob (2017) with Olwen Fouéré. Martin was a drummer in the DIY no-wave band You can call me Frances. United Fall is funded by The Arts Council of Ireland.
