“To us, life with its rhythms and cycles is dance, and dance is life” – A.M Opoku
Created by David Duffy and Ksenia Parkhatskaya, Radio Hermitage is a one woman show with a live jazz quartet that combines dance and theatre in a unique new setting. The culmination of 6 years research, the show intertwines a history of jazz dance with the personal story of a Russian girl escaping a tragic moment in her life through a radio station. It is here she discovers jazz and embodies its many faces. Traveling the milestones of Jazz from its roots to Bebop, through Charleston, Blues and Swing, she reveals the timeless power, depth and raw energy of African American dance and music.
Graceful, eccentric, and full of character, Ksenia is one of the most interesting and versatile artists in the dance world today. Since her arrival on the jazz scene in 2010, her energy and style has quickly led her to becoming an international star and the most viewed Charleston dancer on the Internet.
Radio Hermitage is created by David Duffy, an Irish composer and bassist and Ksenia Parkhatskaya, a Russian dancer and choreographer. David and Ksenia have worked together since meeting in 2015, looking to create a show that blurred the lines between theatre, music and dance. A show like no other for solo dancer and live jazz quartet. The duo teamed up with American dramaturg and choreographer Johnny Loyd and began collaborating to achieve this goal.
