Hot Spot Music Club Presents Ladies in the Blues.
On Valentine’s Day 1920, Mamie Smith stepped up to the microphone in the Okeh Company in New York and shouted out “That Thing Called Love”, making the first recording by a black female vocalist. Since then artists like Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie and Billie Holiday, amongst others have helped transform the Blues from a folk art to a global music form.
Ladies in the Blues pays homage to these women and that tradition, from the earliest days to the present. The show features Flo McSweeney of Moving Hearts fame; guitar playing Ciara Rose, Ireland’s songstress of rockin’ blues; Wicklow singer, Emma Nicolai and Dun Laoghaire Queen of Vaudeville, Jhil Quinn on washboard and vocals.
The House Band features Ireland’s top blues’ sidemen including the legendary, Ed Deane on guitar and James Delaney on keys.
