The performance starts with a contemporary vertical dance film “The Walls of Limerick” followed by a short break before the main performance in the auditorium.
Physically exhilarating, touching and poignant By A Thread is the new hybrid vertical dance show by award winning Kat and Dawg Productions.
This daring show celebrates women who have come forward to tell their truth. By a Thread weaves stories of an Irish “fallen” woman’s journey to find her voice with the charming feat of flying beings finding their place in the world. It’s not just an aerial dance work, but rather it is imbued with a story we can all relate to, one of courage, of heartbreak but most importantly one that realises the value of our lives.
Inspired by stories from the Magdalene laundries, this emotionally charged show is interwoven with aerial dance, song and live music performed by Emma Langford – Best Emerging Folk Artist – RTE Radio 1 Folk Awards 2018 and BBC award winning Bodhrán and Percussion artist Cormac Byrne.
Máire Dee and Kathryn Cooley are a vertical dance collective who make up “Kat and Dawg Productions”. They have recently released Ireland’s first ever vertical dance film “Walls of Limerick”. Now they bring you their latest choreographic mission “By a Thread” funded by the Arts Council Ireland.
They are versatile performers who blend the worlds of dance and aerial to create a movement style that is distinctly their own. Drawing from a wide range of sources has gifted the duo with an expressive movement quality that is striking, fierce and emotionally charged. Their latest work “Walls of Limerick” has been described as incomparably soulful and electrifying.
By a Thread is both exciting and devastating, a must see for a whole generation.
