Have you ever been to a classical ballet performance? You loved it but didn’t fully understand it?
Have you ever seen a classical ballet where you may have felt a bit overwhelmed by the spectacle; the costumes, the dancing, the music, the storyline….and came away from the theatre not sure how all these elements should fit together?
Or have you ever felt curious but just not confident enough to go to see a ballet?
Perhaps Tea and Ballet! can help…..
Over a 6 week series of one hour meetings, we will get together (online) to discuss and focus on one of the classical ballets. The first production we will investigate will be Giselle (first performed in 1841) where we will look at the history behind it’s creation, it’s creators, it’s dancers and hopefully discover the reasons why the world still loves this ballet. We will talk about and learn some of the Mime from the ballet; Mime being the storyteller for this non-verbal art form. And we will learn some of the movements, nuances and imagery which are iconic to Giselle.
Our hope is that after joining us for these social (informal?) meetings you will come away with some of these questions answered and get to know, not just each other, but also the world of classical ballet.
(please note that unfortunately this event cannot currently be held in person and so is being held online via Zoom only)
