Cork Youth Ballet in Association with Firkin Crane Proudly Presents Hanging On.
Directed by Sinead Murphy, Hanging On will feature 40 dancers who will showcase their versatility and creativity by performing specially choreographed pieces in neo classical, contemporary and jazz dance styles.
The programme will feature new and reworked choreography by Andrew Wilson, Head of Ballet and Contemporary Dance at Bird College UK and former soloist at Birmingham Royal Ballet, Alan Foley, Artistic Director Cork City Balllet, Jane Kellaghan, Course Director of CSN and Artistic Director of CRUX Dance Company, Patricia Crosbie, Ballet Mistress with Cork City Ballet and lecturer of dance in University of Limerick and Robert Foley of IAB.
Choreography of the title piece Hanging On will be by Sinead Murphy, Artistic Director of the company and Principal of Cork School of Dance. Patricia Crosbie has reproduced the piece “Cry Me a River” for the company and Robert Foley has choreographed a piece called “MOVE DANCE BE BORN”. The stage will be lit by renowned Lighting Designer Tim Feehily.
Sinead Murphy says “Cork Youth Ballet gives dancers the chance to work with new teachers and choreographers. It provides a great opportunity for the dancers to broaden their horizons and to work and train in a dance style that might be outside their original form of dance training.”
Founded by Sinead Murphy in 2015, the company provides opportunities for young Cork dancers to train as a company and produce dynamic new works. Cork Youth Ballet Company is made up of dancers from various dance schools in Cork including Coláiste Stiofán Naofa, Cork School of Dance, Lucy French School of Dance, Montfort College of Performing Arts, Wolfe Stage School, Starstruck Studios and Making Moves.
