Cork Youth Ballet Company was founded in 2015 by Sinead Murphy, Director Cork School of Dance and is based in Firkin Crane. CYBC provides opportunities for young dancers in Cork to train as a company, producing creative and dynamic new dance works. Company members work with local dance professionals as well as internationally recognised teachers, choreographers and dance artists. While performance and production is the primary aim, the dancers in the company are trained classically and in alternative dance styles that challenge them and give them opportunities to develop their own creativity. The training supplements the dancer’s work in their private dance schools while committing to developing and subsequently maintaining high artistic qualities and standards through focusing on the dancer’s individual potential.
The company of 19 dancers is drawn from Ballet Theatre Ireland, Colaiste Stiofán Naofa Dance Course, Cork School of Dance, Lucy French School of Dance, UCC Dance and the Wolfe Stage School. with ongoing support from Firkin Crane the company rehearse every Wednesday night.
To celebrate the inaugural performance of Cork Youth Ballet, Out Of The Black a programme of new works by choreographers Sinead Murphy and Inma Pavon was performed in Firkin Crane on Wednesday 16th March 2016 by dancers from Cork Youth Ballet Company. The programme showcased the talent and versatility of the Cork Youth Ballet Company dancers.
Following on from the success of their inaugural performance, Cork Youth Ballet Company will perform Breaking Pointe, a short programme of exciting new works and restaging of other pieces by Patricia Crosbie, Sinead Murphy, Inma Pavon and Robert Foley, showcasing the talent and versatility of the Cork Youth Ballet Company dancers. This performance takes place on Friday 21st April 2017 at 8pm.
