A Message from Laurie Uprichard, Executive Artistic Director

A Message from Laurie Uprichard, Executive Artistic Director at Firkin Crane, December 2021

Dear Friends,

Here it is nearly Christmas and we’re on the brink of a New Year.
These last months have been kind of a roller coaster but the joy of the holidays gives us all hope. The Firkin Crane team is looking forward to roaring into 2022 with a programme that brings dance in Cork back to life as the days get longer and brighter.

First up next year, we’re really thrilled to host dance artists Jools GilsonMary Nunan, and Cindy Cummings for a residency, for which Jools received an Agility Award from the Arts Council. This will be followed by international residencies, conceived by Fearghus Ó’Conhúir, with choreographers Daniel Abreu (Spain), Annie Hanauer (Germany), Wanjiru Kamuyu (France), and Olga Zitluhina (Latvia), supported by the iPortunus programme of the EU. And that’s just for starters.

We have many plans to mark our 30th anniversary in 2022 and look forward to toasting this revitalisation with you. Firkin Crane is your home for dance and we look forward to welcoming our vibrant community long into the future.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our donors for their continued support during the most challenging of times; the Arts Council of IrelandCork City Council Arts Office and the Community Foundation of Ireland. To everyone who engaged with us during the year, we salute you and applaud all the artists who found new ways of moving and making art during a pandemic.
I’m finding my footing in the wondrously curving streets of Shandon and every time I step into the building, I am struck by all the potential and possibilities that lie ahead. I look forward to sharing these with you in 2022.
Wishing you and your families a peaceful and a restful holiday season. See you in 2022!
