The Firkin Crane

Tonynho dos Santos

Tonynho dos Santos hails originally from Simao Dias-Se in Brazil. After fifteen successful years in Germany, he came to Ireland and has lived for the last three years in Cork.

Tonynho is a multi talented musician and a charismatic example of the rich musical culture that originates in Brazil. His main instrument is the trumpet, which he studied in the University of Salvador da Bahía. He also plays guitar, percussion, steel drums and sings. He toured Europe for several years with various bands.

Tonynho developed a unique style of playing the trumpet which reaches from ever so soft to powerfully aggressive. His source of inspiration - his great idol Miles Davis - this becomes obvious in his exceptional improvisation skills.

Tonynho & Band perform World Music and Nu Jazz. Playing a combination of established songs in exciting new arrangements along with original compositions incorporating lively and innovative open improvisation, they mix the culture of the Orixas and Brazilian Native Indian and incorporating elements of Jazz, Salsa, Reggae and R&B.
