Mairead Vaughan
Mairead Vaughan is a choreographer, dancer and dance/yoga teacher. She graduated from Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Leeds, with a degree in Performing Arts (Dance) and went on to graduate with first class honours from the University of Limerick with an MA in Contemporary Dance Performance. Mairead is artistic director of Shakram Dance Company which she co-founded (with Dara O'Brien) after travelling to India to study Indian Classical Dance in 1999.Mairead’s choreography is fundamentally influenced by ethnic dance forms. She has choreographed eleven works for Shakram and has toured throughout Ireland and Norway and has studied ethnic dance in Peru, Equador, Malaysia, Borneo and Thailand. She has been awarded numerous arts council awards and bursaries the most recent being Dance Ireland’s Choreographic Development Initiative.
