Croí Glan Integrated Dance Company
With the support of The Firkin Crane, Tara Brandel (Artistic Director) and Rhona Coughlan (Outreach Director) set up the groundbreaking Croí Glan Integrated Dance Company in 2006.Croí Glan is a professional contemporary dance company based in Cork, which performs works in a dance theatre style using both disabled and able-bodied dancers. Croí Glan aims to highlight the cutting edge artistic value of integrated dance by producing high calibre work which tours nationally and internationally.
Croí Glan promotes the artistic excellence of integrated dance developing:
- a professional level company that tours high-calibre choreographic performances, nationally and internationally
- an educational outreach programme of introductory workshops; ongoing classes; and vocational training in integrated dance.
- ongoing community level classes
- vocational training for people with physical disabilities who would like to become professional dance teachers or performers, and for professional dancers who would like to teach integrated dance.
In 2009, Croí Glan commissioned David Bolger, Artistic Director of the award winning dance company CoisCéim to create a piece for Cork Midsummer Festival 2009 which was performed at the Firkin Crane. On the Wall is a humorous but poignant quartet triggered by the potential cntrast between the perceptions we hold of ourselves and those the world holds of us. This mirroring quartet investigates the potent cocktail of identity, sexuality and politics that mix to form the possible struggle between self-image and the image others have of us.
Also performed on the night was Fall, both tender and playful, which looks at the ups and downs, soaring and scrabbling, heights an depths of the human condition and was choreographer by Tara Brandel
