The Firkin Crane

Cork Dance Company

Aruba Coghlan formed the Cork Dance Company in 1966. She organised the first Royal Academy of Dance exams in Cork in the 1960s and was appointed as Dance Examiner (the first in Ireland) for the International Dance Teachers Association in 1994. Aruba is a fully qualified teacher of the Royal Academy of Dancing, The Imperial Society, Trinity College London and The Royal Irish Academy.

Aruba started dancing at four years old and continues to dance and teach. She frequently examines in England and other countries, does Master Classes, Teacher Training and private lessons in all branches of dance.

In 2008, the Lord Mayor of Cork City launched an exhibition based on her wonderful collection of over 500 dance publications, which were donated to Cork City Library. She received an official vote of thanks from Cork City Council.
